Back of House Trainer– Kitchen, Stores, Stewarding, Health and Safety.

  • The Trainer reports to the Head Chef and is accountable for delivery, management and administrative
    elements of the training needs for back of house staff, incorporating Kitchens, Stores, Stewarding, Health
    and Safety and compliance with all SOPs (Standard operating Procedures).
  • Knowledgeable in Hospitality and Kitchen training practices, manages the process and contributes
    thoughtfully to the successful running of the departments, and the satisfaction of those who work in
    them, consistent with that success
  • Provide training support and guidance to the Kitchen/Back of House Management team
  • Create and sustain a work environment that embraces the company vision, mission and values and
    ensures fair, equitable treatment of all staff
  • Focus on the HOST brand essence – “A good night’s sleep means a good day’s work” in a Zero Harm
    environment through the (yet to be defined) guest centric touch points
  • Ensures that all new employees are inducted and trained to the requirements of the relevant Standard
    Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Helps Team Managers and Team Leaders maintain up to date training and development plans
  • Against the requirement of the relevant SOP ensures that all requisite training is carried out and
    recorded by the due date
  • Works with colleagues at all levels to help see to the preparation and running of the properties’ Personal
    Development Plans (PDP’s) and initiates and run appropriate standard training programmes
  • The Trainer participates as a member of the ManCom
  • Working with colleagues at all levels to deliver a consistent level of quality service

Qualifications for the job

  • At least three years’ experience in a similar role
  • Expertise in operating with a similar facility
  • Must be a graduate of a Training, hospitality or business course or its equivalent

Position summary

The Trainer shares full responsibility with the Head Chef and Back of House Management team for maximizing
the long- term operating performance of the HOST campus

Duties & Responsibilities

Accountable for implementing the business strategies and HOST initiatives throughout all aspects of the
induction and training function of the campuses.

Upon your appointment, your immediate responsibility will be to ensure a smooth transition from the pre-
opening phase to the scheduled day of opening. As Trainer, your pre-opening responsibilities will be as follows:

  • You will establish the Back of House over-all training plan
  • You will establish a compliance plan for quality assurance and adherence with the specifications
    and SOPS
  • You will establish the training and compliance plan related to the back of House HACCP system
    and overall Health and Safety.
  • You will manage the approved ‘pre-opening budget’ for your departments accordingly
  • You will be a member of the weekly ‘pre-opening meeting’ attended by the campus ManCom
    and key officers where a standard ‘pre-opening meeting agenda’ will be strictly followed
  • You will be guided by the ‘pre-opening critical path’ fully accomplished with mutually agreed
    dates of all deliverables by each member of the ManCom
  • You will coordinate the planning and implementation of all the pre-opening requirements for the
    Department, in particular: the training areas and all FF&E
  • You will participate in over-seeing, monitoring, evaluating and adjusting all the scheduled
    handovers from the development team to HOST team, including all FF&E installations
  • You will provide all the training & development business data in the preparation of the business
    plan of HOST which will cover the first day of opening and up to twelve months thereafter
  • You will assist the Management in ensuring a successful implementation of the ‘Opening Day Plan’
    and effect the 30-day countdown to opening
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the training and development of staff across the back of house.
  • Oversee all training requirements and ensure a competent ‘annual training calendar’ is
    implemented efficiently
  • Identify and assess future and current training needs through job analysis, career paths, annual
    performance appraisals and consultation with line managers
  • Conduct effective staff orientation sessions
  • Monitor and evaluate training programs’ effectiveness and measure the ROI periodically
  • Resolve any specific problems and tailor-fit programs, deploy a variety of training methods when
  • Maintain a keen understanding of training trends, developments and best practices
  • Champion the brand philosophy and ensure alignment with brand strategy amongst all staff
  • Demonstrate key drivers of guests’ satisfaction. Makes balanced decisions based on what is best
    for the customer, right for the business and supportive to all staff
  • Participate in the reviews by the ManCom of guest satisfaction results and other data to identify
    areas for improvement
  • Oversee the development and management of the annual training budget
